Das Thema QR Code, oder aber auch 2D Barcode genannt, ist ein interessantes Themenfeld. So lassen sich in diesen kleinem Barcode einige Informationen hinterlegen (ca. 1700 Zeichen), die bereits für gewisse Anwendungsfälle komplett ausreichend sind. In Verbindung mit einem Windows Mobile Gerät und einer integrierten Kamera besitzt man bereits alles was man benötigt, um solche Codes lesen zu können.
In Asien ist dies schon seit längerem ein Hype: Kein Handy wird ohne eine solche Software ausgeliefert; keine Coladose, die keinen Code enthält.
Auch Microsoft hatte einiges Bestreben, um sich diesem Thema anzunehmen: Windows Live Barcode und Windows Live Confucius (für eine eher japanische Variante der Barcodes) hiessen die Projekte, welche allerdings momentan anscheinend nicht weitergeführt werden: Beide Projektseiten sind momentan nicht erreichbar. Dabei bot ja Confucius mittlerweile bereits einen Client für Windows Mobile Geräte an (Dopod 828 und 838), welcher zu vielen Windows Mobile 5 Geräten kompatibel war.
Microsoft selbst scheint eher den Weg des 4D-Barcodes zu verfolgen, in welchem auch durch Farbinformationen Werte abgelegt werden können. So berichtet es der Mobile Tagging Blog, welcher darüber hinaus auch noch andere Barcode Technologien beschreibt.
Mark Arteaga berichtet, das es nun eine freie QRCode Komponente von OpenNETCF für das Compact Framework gibt. Mit dieser ist es möglich Bilddateien, welche einenn Barcode enthalten zu dekodieren. Zwar ist nach eigenen Worten die Erkennungsrate noch nicht so optimal, so daß eine Kamera mit mehr als 1,3 Megapixeln verwendet werden soll, jedoch denke ich, daß es noch Optimierungspotential dahingehend gibt. Weiterhin beschreibt neben der Verwendung der Bibliotheker ebenfalls, wie sich Barcodes mittels Webservice erstellen lassen.
Diese Komponente steht unter der MIT 11 Lizenz und kann frei verwendet werden. Sie benötigt jedoch das SmartDeviceFramework 2.1 als Basis. Zu beziehen ist die Software hier.

The Topic QR Code, or also known as 2D Barcode, is an interesting phenomenon. In this little barcodes a lot of information (about 1700 characters) can be encoded, which are already more than sufficient for some use cases. In connection with a Windows Mobile device and an integrated camera everything is present to use this technology.
In Asia it is for a long time now very common: No mobile device is brought to the customer without an integrated barcode reader; no coke can available without a code on it.

It looks more like Microsoft is going for 4D Barcodes, where additional information can be included by using colors. This is announced by the Mobile Tagging Blog, which is also offering more information on other Barcode technologies.
Mark Arteaga announced a free QRCode component by OpenNETCF for the .NET Compact Framework. With this component it is possible to decode information from barcode images. In his own words he says that the recognition rate isn't the best, so that a camera with more than 1,3 MP shall be used, but I think that it is only a matter of time the rate will be improved. Additionally he describes besides the theoretical usage of the component, where barcodes can be generated by using WebServices.
