Wer es nicht zum .NET Summercamp schaffen sollte, hat eine weitere Möglichkeit sich über die Neuerungen im .NET Compact Framework 3.5 und im Visual Studio 2008 für mobile Entwickler zu informieren: Die Session wird am 1. Oktober bei der UG Paderborn um 18 Uhr wiederholt. In diesem gemütlichen Rahmen sollten sich auch andere Themen behandeln lassen. Daher würde es mich freuen viele Leute begrüssen zu können.

Das Erstellen von CAB-Installationsdateien für Windows Mobile ist eigentlich ganz einfach. Hierzu gibt es 2 Möglichkeiten:

• Man erstellt die Datei mittels des Projekttype "CAB-Projekt für intelligente Geräte" im Visual Studio 2005
• Man erstellt die Datei manuell mittels Skriptdatei und CabWiz.exe

(Sie finden beide Installationsarten u.a. detailliert beschrieben in Kapitel 16, Programmieren mit dem .NET Compact Framework)

Es gibt jedoch eine weitere Möglichkeit: WinCE CAB Manager von OCP Software.

Mit dieser Software ist es nicht nur möglich mittels Wizard eine CAB Datei zu erstellen, sondern eine bereits erstellte CAB-Datei zu editieren, zu exportieren und noch vieles mehr.

Zu den Editiermöglichkeiten gehören neben dem Bearbeiten von enthaltenen Dateien auch das Editieren von Registrywerten. Native Entwickler können zusätzlich ihre Setup.DLL einbinden.

Meiner Meinung nach ein wirklich brauchbares Tool, was sein Geld von 99$ Wert ist.

Creating CAB-Files for Windows Mobile is pretty easy. There are 2 possibilities:

• Creating an installationfile using the Projecttype "CAB-Project for Smart Devices"
• Creating the file manually using CabWiz.exe

(Both possibilities are explained in detail in chapter 16 in Programmieren mit dem .NET Compact Framework[german only])

But there is an additional possibility: WinCE CAB Manager von OCP Software.

Using this software doesn't only make it really easy creating a CAB file by Wizard, but also presents a possibility in editing a created CAB file, exporting it and many more.

According the editing possibilities it is possible to alter the registry settings as well. Native developers kann additionally add their custom Setup.DLL.

In my opinion a really usefull tool, which is it's 99$ worth.

Das IPhone übt momentan einigen Einfluss auf die Windows Mobile UI aus: Kaum ein Tag vergeht, ohne das neue Skins, Tools oder sonstige Erweiterungen erscheinen. Eine solche Erweiterung ist die PocketCM Tastatur. Diese bietet neben einer verbesserten Texteingabe auch ein Skinsupport, für welches sich ein IPhone Skin in den Form findet.

The IPhone actually has some influence on the Windows Mobile UI: Nearly no day passes without new Skins, tools or other enhancements being released. One of those enhacements is the PocketCM keyboard. This keyboard offers an improved textinput and skinning support as well, where an IPhone skin can be found on the forums.

Für das .NET CF 3.5 CTP sind nun auch die ersten Powertoys in englischer Sprache als CTP erschienen.
Enthalten hierdrin sind folgende Tools:

• Remote Performance Monitor and GC Heap Viewer
• NETCF CLR Profiler
• App Configuration Tool (NetCFcfg.exe)
• NETCF ServiceModel Metadata Tool
• Remote Logging Configuration Tool
• NETCF Network Log Viewer

Das interessanteste daran ist in meinen Augen das NETCF ServiceModel Metadata Tool, oder kurz: NETCFSvcUtil.exe. Mit der mobilen Variante der SvcUtil.exe lassen sich Proxys für einen WCF Dienst umso leichter erstellen. Andrew Arnott zeigt in seinem Blogeintrag, wie sich dieses Utility verwenden lässt.

Alle weiteren ebenfalls interessanten Tools sind auf der Downloadseite der Powertoys zu finden. Auch die bekannten Fehler sind dort bereits gelistet.

The first Powertoys for the .NET CF 3.5 CTP have been actually released..
Included you will find the following Tools:

After it got a bit quite around new published articles, it was time to publish a new one. Die Coding Competition ist erst wenige Tage alt, schon ist das erste Projekt bereits eingereicht. Malcolm Hall hat sein FlowFX Projekt eingereicht, welches Animationseffekte beim Wechsel ziwschen Forms erlaubt. Hierzu hat er auch noch ein kleines Video zur Verfügung gestellt:

Okay, so langsam verliert man den Überblick. Kaum das der HTC Touch erschienen ist und auch schon vom aktualisierten Modell gesprochen wird, da wird auch schon das Touch II vorgestellt.

Die Entwickler um das SmartDeviceFramework hat eine neue Communityseite gestartet. Auf dieser sollen neben Whitepapers und weiteren interessanten Themen auch monatlich Coding Wettbewerbe für mobile Entwickler stattfinden. Diesen Monat (September) geht es um das Thema UI (mehr hier). Zusätzlich gibt es auch die Möglichkeit eigene Open Source Projekte, ähnlich wie bei CodePlex, zu hosten (mehr dazu hier).

Zusätzlich werden die OpenNETCF Foren ebenfalls auf die neue Site migriert.
